Assistance dogs

Dogs will love it at Bowhill and we welcome all kinds of dogs. Assistance dogs are welcome in all parts of the attraction. If you do bring any four legged-friends, please remember to clean up after them and always keep them on a short lead. There are water bowls located in the main courtyard.

Wheelchair users

We have one wheelchair available for use; which you can request when you book your tour in the gift shop or in advance by calling 01750 22204.

If you use a wheelchair you might find that the historic construction of our buildings and the nature of the countryside affects your access to some parts of the Estate as follows. Please see the Access Statement for more detailed information.

Bowhill House – guided tours

You can access all the public rooms on the guided tour by wheelchair except the Old Chapel, which has four narrow steps up to it.

Courtyard attractions

All our courtyard attractions – the Soft Play area, Victorian Kitchen, Exhibition and tearoom – are accessible. Bowhill Theatre also has full wheelchair access and a hearing loop.

Adventure Playground

We have a spider swing specifically designed for children with special access requirements. Other equipment may be accessible depending on individual abilities. The playground is floored with rough wood chippings.

Walks/access to grounds

All the main Estate roads and courtyard have tarmac surfaces. The garden in front of Bowhill House can be accessed by wheelchair users, but has a gravelled ground surface which some may find difficult.

The most accessible of our Estate walks is the Lochs Walk, which is partially on tarmac and can be done in a motorised wheelchair. There is a short but steep hill on the return of the walk.

Visitors who are blind or have sight loss

We offer guided tours of the House and you can buy a large print information booklet.

Visitors who are deaf or have hearing loss

We have an induction loop in Bowhill Theatre. At the moment we don’t have a loop on the tour of Bowhill House, but we hope to rectify this soon.
