A feast of drama awaits you at Bowhill
As you relax in your theatre seat, waiting in anticipation for the lights to go down, you might find it hard to believe that you are actually sitting in a game larder! But that was the original function of this incredible artistic space.
In 1989 we had the bold idea of transforming the Estate’s old cold storage room into a 72-seat theatre with advanced sound and lighting facilities. We further upgraded the theatre in 2006 with a new bar and foyer that make a splendid place ideal to relax with a drink before the show or during the interval.
Regular Bowhill visitor and renowned drama fan Sir Walter Scott would no doubt have approved of the larder’s starring new role!

Terms and conditions
If you buy your tickets from the Bowhill Theatre box office, it is your responsibility to check your tickets and keep them in a safe place. We cannot accept responsibility for lost or stolen tickets. You may prefer not to have your tickets posted out to you, in which case we will keep them for collection on the evening.
- Once purchased, tickets are non-refundable. However if you cannot attend a performance for any reason let us know and we may be able to refund you if there is a waiting list for tickets (less £1 handling charge per ticket). Otherwise, you may exchange your ticket for another performance that season.
- If an event is cancelled we will make every attempt to contact you. Should an event be cancelled by us we will offer a full refund or transfer the cost of your tickets to another event on our programme. If an event is cancelled for reasons beyond our control we will not offer a refund but transfer your tickets only.
- We will make every attempt to admit latecomers but admission cannot always be guaranteed.
- Please be aware that your ticket does not reserve a particular seat. Your seat will be allocated to you on arrival on a first come first served basis. If you have any special needs please let us know well in advance.
