Take a closer look at Buccleuch art collection
30th July, 2018
Visitors can decipher the hidden messages and meanings found within some of the Buccleuch art collection within Bowhill House.
The talk, titled ‘Are you reading me?’, is the latest in the Heritage Talks series and will take place on Friday 3rd August at 2pm.
Delivered by House Manager, Helen Currie, the session will discuss what messages artists were trying to convey through their work.
Helen said: “Many artists were very clever at using paintings to illustrate messages and this was especially important in the days before photography was invented, or before the advent social media.
“What’s more, there has been lots in the media over the past few years about celebrities in particular manipulating their image on social media. This isn’t actually a new concept – it was happening hundreds of years ago, albeit in much more subtle ways!”
The session will last approximately 45 minutes and will be followed by a cream tea.
Tickets cost £7 per person and booking by calling 01750 22204 or emailing info@bowhillhouse.co.uk is essential.
