July performances to thrill at Bowhill Theatre

26th June, 2014

Bowhill House and Country Estate is set to play host to a duo of exciting theatre productions in July showcasing an exquisite mix of song and drama.

Presenting a potted ‘history’ of comedy song Michael Lunts – a professional actor-pianist specialising in one man shows, comedy revues and musical dramas – will appear in his show entitled ‘Tickling the Ivories’ on July 12 within the intimate surroundings of Bowhill Theatre.

Delving through the archives from the 1870s to the 1970s, from Gilbert and Sullivan to Tom Lehrer and Music Hall to Monty Python, Michael takes the audience back through 100 years of comedy song.

Tickets for the show are priced at £12 per person and spectators can make their evening extra special with an optional supper in the Minstrel Tearoom at 6.30pm costing £13.

Later in the month, back by popular demand after their hugely successful show last year, the all-male Handlebards team will make a welcome return to Bowhill, this time with Macbeth.

The outdoor theatre performance on July 19 at 6pm will allow visitors to see a fantastic show while enjoying the beautiful surroundings of Bowhill House and Country Estate.

The play is performed in the glorious gardens of Bowhill by four environmentally-aware young men who travel between venues on bicycles, bringing everything they need with them.

Macbeth tells of ambition leading to tragedy and features some of the most moving scenes of all Shakespearian works.

The production was hugely popular last year as a clear and intelligent interpretation of Shakespearian text and this year’s show promises to be another treat. Tickets cost £11 for adults and £9 for those aged under-18.

To book, call 01750 22204 or email info@bowhillhouse.co.uk. Tickets for Macbeth can also be ordered from Border Events.
