Fun for all the family

With the summer holidays fast approaching, Bowhill House and Country Estate has a fun-packed schedule of activities and events for children of all ages throughout July and August.

The House and Country Estate, on the outskirts of Selkirk, is one of the Scottish Borders’ most popular visitor attractions, welcoming around 20,000 visitors each year.

Bowhill – which was recently shortlisted as Best Visitor Attraction category at the Scottish Thistle Awards’ Central South-East regional final – is to a host an array of fun days and entertaining events for all the family to enjoy including:

  • Come Fly a Kite – 10th July (2pm – 3.30pm) – make a wildlife kite. Activity charge £2.50 per child, accompanying adult is free
  • Family Fun Day – 13th July – entertainment for the whole family, archery with the Ettrick Forest Archers
  • Wild in the Woods – 17th July (2pm -3.30pm) – try your hand at den building. Activity charge £2.50 per child, accompanying adult is free
  • Recycled Crafts – 24th July (2pm – 3.30pm). Activity charge £2.50 per child, accompanying adult is free
  • Wildlife Cribs –31st July (2pm -3.30pm) – explore the wonderful world of animals’ natural habitats. Activity charge £2.50 per child, accompanying adult is free
  • Feed the Birds – 7th August (2pm -3.30pm) – make treats and homes for feathered friends. Activity charge £4.00 per child, accompanying adult is free
  • Kids’ Outdoorsy Fair – 11th August – day of family friendly outdoor activities
  • Minibeast Magic – 14 August (2pm -3.30pm). Activity £2.50 per child, accompanying adult is free

In addition, Bowhill House boasts a 72-seat theatre, outdoor adventure playground, walking trails and gardens, Minstrel Tearoom and a new children’s soft play area – a fun and interactive facility that caters for up to 32 children.

House and Events Manager, Helen Currie, at Bowhill said: “We are very excited about all the fabulous activities we have to offer our visitors this summer and with the great additions to the Estate for 2013, we are confident visitors will immensely enjoy the day-out experience here at Bowhill.

“We understand that finding activities to keep youngsters entertained throughout the summer holidays can be a challenge, so we want to remind parents that our events and facilities offer the perfect solution. What’s more our new ticket scheme means if you pay for entry to the Estate once, this can be transferred to a season pass allowing repeat visits to the Estate in 2013, for no extra cost.”

*Entry fees for Bowhill Estate are £3.50 adults, £2.50 concession, and free for under threes. A family ticket (two adults and two children) is available for £10.00. House and Estate tickets, which include a house tour during the open season, are also available at a price of £8.00, £7.00 for concessions.
