Bowhill pledges support to Soupalunch group

16th May, 2018

An award winning social enterprise group based in Hawick has agreed a sponsorship deal with Bowhill House for the third consecutive year.

The funds will assist Hawick Congregational Community Church to continue offering a weekly affordable lunch menu as part of its Reaching Out community project.

The Soupalunch takes place each Wednesday between 12noon and 1pm with around 60 people of all ages attending every week.

The service is staffed by volunteers who serve up delicious homemade dishes including soup, toasties, filled rolls and cakes.

Sarah Richardson, Visitor Services and Marketing Manager at Bowhill, said: “We are delighted to continue to support this superb local group for the third year.

“I had the chance to visit the Soupalunch recently to spend time with its volunteers and those enjoying a hearty lunch.

“There is a great sense of community with people from all walks of life coming to enjoy the lunch and help out.

“I also enjoyed meeting the Knit and Natter’s group who attend the Soupalunch after their morning session. The group is truly inspirational, knitting hats, cardigans, blankets and teddies, for Syrian refugees, which are despatched through Edinburgh Direct Aid.”

Geraldine Strickland, Development Worker and Project Manager for Reaching Out, added: “As a small local charity, we are truly delighted to have the support of the team at Bowhill House.

“The donations and support we receive from local Trusts and Companies, enable us to bring Soupalunch and various other activities we run throughout the week, to the community.

“Soupalunch is open to everyone in the community and is a great opportunity to catch up or make new friends over lunch. We particularly welcome those who feel themselves to be more vulnerable or more isolated than they would wish to be.”
