Bowhill funds Selkirk charity’s garden revamp

12th September, 2014

CHILDREN 1st Selkirk is set to receive a cash boost thanks to Bowhill House and Country Estate.

The organisation has been awarded £300, which will go towards transforming its garden area into a calm and welcoming environment for children, young people and adults using the service.

CHILDREN 1st works with families, communities and other organisations to improve the lives of vulnerable children and young people across Scotland.

The Selkirk service will use the donation from Bowhill’s sponsorship fund to revamp the outdoor space of its Ettrick Family Resource Centre and create an interesting and engaging garden area.

The Ladybird Lodge, an outdoor playhouse, will undergo significant repairs to restore woodwork and paint, making it a safe and enjoyable addition for visiting children and young people.

Plans are also underway to build a simple and fun adventure area and upgrade the garden with colourful flowers and shrubs.

Helen Currie, House and Events Manager at Bowhill, said: “We chose to help CHILDREN 1st Selkirk because of the fantastic work it does with local families.

“Families are very important to us here at Bowhill and we’re committed to helping children and young people enjoy the outdoors and create happy, lasting memories.

“We are very proud to be lending a helping hand in creating a space which will allow visitors to get some fresh air, relax and take some time out from the stresses of daily life.”

Amanda Erskine, Project Worker at the Ettrick Family Resource Centre in Selkirk, added: “All of our service users benefit from taking some time outdoors and it will be wonderful to offer them a more interesting and enjoyable space.

“Our garden project plans are ambitious but will be well worth it when we can open it to the children, young people and families we work with.

“We are still looking for volunteers to help carry out the work and donations of plants, garden furniture, materials and pots/containers so we urge anyone who can offer their time, skills or donations to get in touch on 01750 22892.”
