Bairns invited to explore Bowhill’s history this summer

A special series of workshops has been developed to make history fun and engaging for youngsters this summer.

Bowhill House and Country Estate has launched its Bowhill for Bairns programme which focuses on key aspects of the historic visitor attraction’s past.

The next session on 11^th July will see young visitors delve into the stories which are illustrated on some pieces of furniture in the House, including the story of the milkmaid and her pail which led to the proverb ‘don’t count your chickens until they are hatched’.

This session is followed by a closer look at the wallpaper found within the Boudoir, with children invited to create their very own designs. The series concludes with a session on monograms.

Helen Currie, House Manager at Bowhill, said: “We wanted to develop a series of sessions accessible to youngsters, to get them excited about the history of Bowhill.

“Our programme brings to life various stories and artefacts and enables children to get creative.”

Children can also enjoy the picturesque Estate this summer by attending the Bowhill Holiday Ranger club which takes place every Tuesday and Thursday in July and August.

A host of fun Ranger activities designed for little ones aged under six-years-old takes place every Friday in July as part of Nutty’s Little Squirrel Club.

Additional family activities coming to Bowhill this summer include the next Ranger led walk, a new ‘Fairy Training with the Fairy Godmother’ session, Segway excursions, archery plus exhilarating tree climbing.

Helen added: “As well as lots to do for children during the school holidays, there’s plenty for families to enjoy including the tree climbing and Segway sessions. They are new additions to our events programme this year and are proving extremely popular.”
