Bowhill House & Grounds is set to open its doors for two dates in October for the first time.
The visitor attraction’s open season ran from 30 March to 29 September with Bowhill’s Harvest Festival marking the last day.
On 26 and 27 October House and Grounds will be open to visitors, giving them a final chance to view the historic residence and world-renowned Buccleuch art collection this year.
Guided tours will take place at 12 noon, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm which will take in famed artworks by Canaletto, Raeburn, Reynolds and Gainsborough to name but a few, as well as Bowhill’s collection of Portrait Miniatures and some of its exquisite rooms including the Smoking Room and Drawing Room.
The ‘Love and Respect in the Victorian Age’ exhibition will also be open which comprises a collection of around 70 items including silver, porcelain, jewellery, books and manuscripts, paintings and miniatures. The artefacts tell the story of Walter Francis Montagu Douglas Scott, 5th Duke of Buccleuch and 7th Duke of Queensberry and his wife, Charlotte-Anne.
Rory Powell, House Manager at Bowhill House & Grounds, said: “We are very excited to open the doors to the House and Gardens for selected dates out with the visitor season for the very first time.
“Our programme of events including Halloween House Tours and theatre performances still take place throughout the year but this is an exclusive chance to have access to Bowhill ahead of the next season.
“Our knowledgeable tour guides are ready to take visitors back in time to explore the incredible history of Bowhill and the breath-taking art it is home to.”
