Triple bill of heritage events at Bowhill House this September

The penultimate instalment of Bowhill’s heritage talks series is set to take place on 1 September.
From a family history of rebellion to noble Dukes and the treasures held in the Buccleuch Houses, the heritage talks series at Bowhill House has taken visitors on a fascinating journey through time.
Titled ‘Beautiful Bowhill’ and led by House Guide Walter Bateman, this talk takes visitors on a journey around the architectural heritage of Bowhill House.
The tour will outline developments and changes to the House in the late Georgian and Victorian periods and also includes a delicious cream tea.
Bowhill is also set to host two events as part of the Scottish Borders Heritage Festival.
The first event, ‘Torchlight Walk to Newark Castle’ will take place on the evening of 1 September (7.30pm) The tour begins in the Sunken Garden at Bowhill House and takes guests on a short walk to Newark Castle with lots of surprises, stories and performances along the way.
Bowhill’s heritage bonanza will conclude with a ‘Sounding Out the Past’ event as part of the Festival.
The event is a new music commission for the Borders Heritage Festival 2017 inspired by the theme ‘Borders – Where People Place and Myth Meet’.
The performance (taking place on 6 September, 6.30pm for 7.30pm) will see the Scottish Chamber Orchestra ensemble take to the stage in the intimate surroundings of Bowhill House.

“This talk is set to provide fascinating insights into the architecture of the building.
“We are also delighted to host two fabulous Scottish Borders Heritage Festival events which provide two every different experiences.”
‘Beautiful Bowhill’ commences at 2pm and costs £6 per person. ‘Torchlight Walk to Newark Castle’ is £9 for adults and £6 for children, and ‘Sounding Out the Past’ is £25 per person.
