Enjoy the last of the summer holiday at Bowhill

5th August, 2015

Bowhill Country House and Estate is offering families plenty to keep them entertained over the last few weeks of the summer holiday.

As well as stunning walks that can be explored at leisure, experienced Rangers are on hand to give more information on the Estate while taking in the Gardens, lochs and woodland.

More intrepid walkers who want to explore the hidden corners of the Gardens and woodland can attend Bowhill’s Secret Stroll on Saturday 29th August, from 11am until 1pm. It’s the perfect opportunity to learn more about the landscape’s history and to venture along previously unnoticed paths.

Families looking for education and adventure can enjoy the Estate’s variety of Holiday Clubs throughout August.

The popular Bowhill Ranger Club will continue every Tuesday and Thursday until the end of the school holidays from 11am until 1pm. The Club includes activities such as den building and pond dipping, as well as woodland art and bush craft sessions which will keep the kids active before heading back to school.

Admission to the Holiday Ranger Club is £4.50 per child (six to eight–year-olds require adult supervision).

Nutty’s Little Squirrel Club gives children aged under six the chance to discover the woodlands of Bowhill, and to take part in a host of Ranger activities. Every Wednesday between 1.30pm and 2.30pm until the end of September, the young explorers will head out on an adventure around the Estate before enjoying story time with the Bowhill Ranger. They also have the opportunity to get creative making woodland crafts and to join in with wilderness games.

All children must be accompanied by an adult and the activity is priced at £2.50 per child.

Along with the Junior Clubs, the Family Ranger Club continues every Sunday until the end of September from 11am until 1pm. This is a chance for all the family to learn some more about the wildlife that nests throughout the grounds – and how Bowhill aims to make it a welcoming home for them all.

Admission to the family club costs £3 for adults, £2 for children, and £8 for a family ticket (two adults and two children).

There’s also a chance to enjoy some culture or learn a new skill throughout the month. A two-day Clarsach workshop with Elspeth Smellie, teaching the basics of the Celtic Harp, will from 10.30am until 4pm on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th August.

Keen harpists can book a place by calling 01573 228 289.

Entertaining outdoor theatre is making its way to Bowhill this August as drama group Handlebards present their version of Hamlet at the historical grounds. The actors will perform Shakespeare’s famous tragedy on Thursday 13th August from 6.30-8.30pm.

Tickets cost £12 for adults, £10 for under 16s or £40 for a family ticket (two adults and two children).

Entry fees for the Estate, including the gardens, adventure playground and walks, are £4.50 for adults and £3.50 for concessions or children aged three to 16, with under threes going free.
